3 Days Mourning for Wenchuen China Earthquake Victims
Sun May 18, 2008 at 10:14:05 PM PDT
Chinese people will observe 3 days mourning for the Wenchuen Earthquake victims starting today at 14:28 Beijing Time, exactly 1 week from the time of the first quake.
In this period, all Chinese are requested to observe 3 minutes of silence and all ships in port, trains and automobiles to sound their horns out of respect to the victims.
Of course, anyone who wishes to may join in solidarity with the Chinese people is most welcome.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all Kos members/visitors who have provided moral support and material aid to the Chinese people in this time of need.
Today an aircraft containing tents, lanterns and 15,000 meals arrived in Chengdu and I'm sure this will bring great releif to the suvivors and rescue workers who have been working non-stop for one week now. Now that transportation channels to the devistated areas have been established, this aid should arrive to the needy quickly.
Your kindness is truely appreciated by the Chinese people.
谢谢您 !

Racing against time to survive another day (Updated)
Tue May 13, 2008 at 10:08:02 AM PDT
They worked all night in the darkness digging without rest. You can't save everyone. Maybe you can't save anyone. But if you can it means a second chance even if you can only save yourself.
Another day has passed and they're still struggling alone because no one knows where they are and time is running short. But to live is better than to die so you keep trying. Or you lie helpless and wait wherever you are.

In Sichuan Province today we had a 7.8 7.9 scale earthquake at 14:28 that was felt across the country and all the way south-west to Vietnam and Thailand and east to Taipei. Needless to say it was a busy day and we will be working all night to help our staff from the region contact familly and prepare supplies, but I just want to report some basic information and will try to update later.

Another one bites the dust ($@!*% edition)
Fri Feb 01, 2008 at 08:54:17 AM PDT
I've decided to swear-off Candidate Diaries. I regret this since it's a decision to disengage from important political dialogue in an historic election and an admission of my own failure. However, I don't see what good I've accomplished by participating, so I'll seek another way.
I'd like to say why I joined Kos and why I'll stay, but refrain from the partisan battles. Another sad tale bright sky after the fold.

China Bans Disposable Plastic Bags
Sun Jan 20, 2008 at 09:48:36 AM PDT
China, with a population of 1.3 billion people, consumes up to 3 billion plastic shopping bags daily, equivalent to 37 million barrels of oil annually. Millions of these bags find their way to the open seas contributing to "White Pollution" and the death of marine life.
January 9, the State Council announced that effective June 1, China will totally ban ultra-thin plastic bags requiring alternatives that meet new regulations that promote reuse, reduction and recycling. The regulation package also includes improvement of government operated recycling centers to facilitate proper recycling of packaging meeting the new regulations.
In doing so, China joins Bangladesh, Ireland, South Africa, Taiwan and Uganda in prohibiting use of these environmentally hazardous disposables and establishing infrastructure to promote alternatives. The new regulations represent a significant victory for environmental activists in China who have worked long and hard to influence Environmental Policy. Environmental organizations worldwide are praising Chinas decision and encouraging other major nations to follow suit.
International Day of Action for a Free Burma - Today
Sat Oct 06, 2007 at 07:55:32 AM PDT
Burma. We asked you to care. We're asking again.
As you read, someone lays beaten and bloody for the crime of caring too much, for the sin of fighting with ideas not guns. Imprisoned. How can they go on without support? Is this asking too much?
If you can spare some time to walk & talk, open your heart & meet me after the jump.
Myanmar: UN-SC Takes Strong Position
Fri Oct 05, 2007 at 01:09:04 PM PDT
The UN Security Council met Friday in New York to receive a report from Special Envoy Ibrahim Gambari.
Speaking in diplomatic but clear terms, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Gambari denounced the situation in Myanmar warning that sanctions could follow if Myanmar failed to respond quickly and appropriately, urging the Junta to meet with political opposition. Speaking in guardedly optimistic terms, Gambari indicated the Junta was prepared to meet with Aung San Suu Kyi.

Google : George W. Bush is a Failure
Tue Nov 07, 2006 at 12:52:43 AM PDT
It's Official - George Bush is the No. 1 Failure in the Gogglesphere.
The Proof?
1. Go to www.google.com
2. Type in the keyword "Failure"
3. Look at the first entry
Please don't forget, despite the fact that W. is a certified failure, the GOP still controls Congress, so ...
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE !!!
Update:
Apperently, Bush has held this Goggle ranking since 2004, and despite this fact he won a second term. I don't know what that says about the American electorate ...is there some doubt? ... or is he compeating with other, greater failures?
Please click-through to the poll and cast your vote ...
