Obama HQ in Moon Township (Pittsburgh area) needs volunteers.

So if you're hanging out in Moon Township today, go over to Obama HQ at:

               927 Brodhead Rd in Coraopolis

and ask for Cathie.  She's got stuff for you to do.

ACTION items only please.  There are other diaries for voting comments.

Stop-Loss (Iraq War), the movie:  See it this weekend

Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 11:27:34 AM PDT

While not a documentry, it is still an important film about the Iraq war, and the solders and families fighting it.  Trey Ellis on the HuffPost calls it this generation's Deer Hunter:

Just like The Deer Hunter, Stop-Loss lifted the veil for me, disabused me of my romantic notions of war. I left furious at this administration for toying with these earnest young men, robbing them of their youth for a web of lies, traumatizing them not to keep us safe at home but so old men could play army and get rich.

If you are thinking about seeing it, see it this weekend.  I'm seeing it tomorrow.

For all the reasons we saw Al Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth on it's opening weekend:  good numbers this weekend will get it unto more screens, shown longer and more press.  And the more people that see this film, the more the Iraq war will influence their vote come Novemember.

Speaker Hastert: Orchestrating FBI Cover-ups? Foley & Edmonds

Mon Oct 09, 2006 at 10:51:46 AM PDT

In a September 2005 article in Vanity Fair called "An Inconvenient Patriot", a FBI translator, Sibel Edmonds, was fired and evidence of possible espionage, drug trafficking, and bribery of members of Congress was covered up by the FBI.  Mr. Hastert was named in the wire-taps translated by Ms. Edmonds as exchanging favors and information for money.  "One name apparently stood out - a man the Turkish callers referred to as "Denney Boy".  It was house speaker Dennis Hastert."

What is notable is the invoking of the state secrets privilege, which means F.B.I. and the Department of Justice did not have to contest the merits of her claims, effectively stymieing legal recourse on Edmonds' part.  Fortunately this has not kept her quiet.

Now in the Foley scandal, with Hastert as a central character, there's another FBI cover-up regarding the non-investigation of the Foley emails by the FBI, after CREW provided them with the emails and requested an investigation months ago.

Freep this rating: Professor says senator used racial slur

Tue Sep 26, 2006 at 06:02:07 AM PDT

Getting it front page on Yahoo will cause some hurt in the Allen camp.

"A noted political scientist joined one of Sen. George Allen (news, bio, voting record)'s former college football teammates in claiming the senator used a racial slur to refer to blacks in the early 1970s, a claim Allen dismisses as "ludicrously false."

Larry J. Sabato, one of Virginia's most-quoted political science professors and a classmate of Allen's in the early 1970s, said in a televised interview Monday that Allen used the epithet."

Gas price conspiracy -- more fuel

Mon Sep 25, 2006 at 11:22:26 AM PDT

Lending weight to the gas price conspiracy stories, Saudi Arabia announced yesterday, 24 September 2006, that they plan to boost output by up to 1.5m barrels.

Now, the output is not increasing today, or tomorrow, or even this year, but over the next five years, with the first major increase June 07.  And it still had the (desired?) effect of driving down cost of oil to under $60 a barrel today.  So why the announcement yesterday?  Six weeks before our mid-term elections.

Roberts involved Iran-Contra? C-Span caller. Answer to Feingold disengenuinous.

Thu Sep 15, 2005 at 09:11:48 PM PDT

There was a viewer comment call into C-SPAN during the lunch break today, with information that Roberts had knowledge of Iran-Contra as it was happening, even through he told Feingold that he did not recall a memo that referenced Iran-Contra.  The caller said Robert's answer to Feingold was "disengenuinous" (if I'm remembering her word correctly.)

I believe the caller gave her name, gave specifics and time frames for his involvement, and described where documents backing up her claim could be found.

I was running out the door and wasn't able to make notes.  I did a search of dkos, but found no references to this.   I'm watching the achieve video from the session prior to the lunch break, but the break may be edited out.  Does anyone know if this claim was checked out?  It sounded authentic and could open up some interesting written questions for next week.  Thanks for any information.
Update [2005-9-16 0:48:38 by Alan Arizona]: The archieve video for the morning session did not extend into the lunch break, so I'm out of luck there. Any ideas?
