Tillman/Lynch Report: WH Created New Facts

Mon Jul 14, 2008 at 12:50:02 PM PDT

The House Oversight Committee has released a Report into the misinformation around the death of Pat Tillman and the rescue of Jessica Lynch and it, as suspected, leads to the White House and Rove.

The report details all kinds of changing stories and faulty memories in the 'higher ups' but still comes to the conclusion that:

Neither case involved an act of omission. The misinformation was not caused by overlooking or misunderstanding relevant facts. Instead, in both cases affirmative acts created new facts that were significantly different than what the soldiers in the field knew to be true. And in both cases the fictional accounts proved to be compelling public narratives at difficult times in the war.

Justice Department To Begin Racial/Ethnic Profiling

Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 12:59:24 PM PDT

The usual disclaimer: I posted about this in an open thread last night, and have done a quick search to find a diary on the issue but came up empty handed.

From the AP we get the following headline:

Race profiling eyed for terror probes.

And the first paragraph of the story pretty much says it all:

Dear Young Reader

Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 06:22:13 AM PDT

During a trip into a used book store yesterday I stumbled across the teen-age abridged edition of 'Profiles In Courage' by John F Kennedy.  Having never read it before, and seeing it was a first edition marked for 45 cents, I snatched it up rather quickly.

Glancing through the book Ive noticed quite a number of lines and paragraphs that I find relevant in our modern times. but the forward titled 'Dear Young Reader' I find most relevant and would like to share with the dkos community, especially with the atmosphere around here the last few days with the whole in-fighting on the FISA issue, Clark statements, and others.

The DailyMail Drops a Bomb on McCain

Sun Jun 08, 2008 at 10:10:50 AM PDT

A quick scan of the sidebar shows me no sign of this story, but if I did miss it, sorry for the repeat.

Most of us know of McCains first wife, but The DailyMail has a story titled 'The wife U.S. Republican John McCain callously left behind' and it contains some bombs, and may dash the hopes of McCain capturing the 'disgruntled women' vote.

My Job Was Just Outsourced

Fri Jun 06, 2008 at 06:30:49 PM PDT

Minutes ago I received a call from my shift supervisor telling me I (and everyone in my department) would be losing my job in two weeks. I work for an document-scanning company, which primarily digitalizes millions of medical insurance claims, and apparently the job I do is done for much cheaper in China, where the company is now outsourcing the work. (Whats safer than millions of social security numbers and medical information being processed by a foreign nation right?).

Im a 24 year old male with no college, and have only been making 9 dollars an hour for the past year and a half at this job, but havent complained because I know others are making less. I drive 25 miles each way to work, and spend a 100 dollars a paycheck on gas alone. And I never complained because I know others are paying more and driving further.

Update: Ellen DeGeneres Lectures John McCain on Gay Marriage

Thu May 22, 2008 at 02:24:55 PM PDT

John McCain just appeared 'Ellen' aka 'The Ellen Degeneres Show'. After a  questions about his age where he quoted Reagan's 'youth and inexperience' line and another that Ive already forgotten, Ellen asked McCain what he thought about the  California Supreme Court decision that would allow her to get married.

McCain replies that he supports peoples rights to enter contracts, but that he supports the natural, traditional marriage between man and woman, and never quite manages to look Ellen in the eye.

WH vs NBC. NBC: "Its A Free Society"

Mon May 19, 2008 at 05:10:53 PM PDT

The Hill, and others are reporting on the latest attempts by the White House control the press.

The White House on Monday sent a scathing letter to NBC News, accusing the news network of "deceptively" editing an interview with President Bush on the issue of appeasement and Iran.

Clintons 'REZKO' Problem?

Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 06:34:59 AM PDT

While searching for a picture of the Clinton mansion to compare to Obama's I ran across this 1999 story from the NY Times:

Financial Engineering in the Clinton House Deal

And while I admittedly do not understand the whole thing, it catches my attention and raises hypocrisy issues with the Clinton campaigns repeated bringing up of the Rezko non-issue.

White House Leak Aids Terrorists (Again)

Tue Oct 09, 2007 at 08:54:59 AM PDT

I am at work and don't have much time so this will be short. If anyone else has posted this please let me know. If this is 'too short' and someone wants to go into more detail in a different diary, feel free.

You can find the original story at the Washington Post.

A small private intelligence company that monitors Islamic terrorist groups obtained a new Osama bin Laden video ahead of its official release last month, and around 10 a.m. on Sept. 7, it notified the Bush administration of its secret acquisition. It gave two senior officials access on the condition that the officials not reveal they had it until the al-Qaeda release.

Within 20 minutes, a range of intelligence agencies had begun downloading it from the company's Web site. By midafternoon that day, the video and a transcript of its audio track had been leaked from within the Bush administration to cable television news and broadcast worldwide.

"I challenge anybody in Congress to do my rotation"

Mon Jul 16, 2007 at 07:17:54 PM PDT

"I challenge anybody in Congress to do my rotation," said Spc. Michael Vassell of Apache Company. "They don't have to do anything, they just come hang out with me and go home at the times I go home, and come stay here 15 months with me."

Thats from This ABC Article on the day to day struggles in the life of our men and women in Iraq.

15 months. Not a stroll through a market in the greenzone, or a surprise visit to urge the oil-contracts along.

New Poll Out. American Public To Bush: Executive Priv. My @ss

Fri Jul 13, 2007 at 11:51:23 PM PDT

Time and time again in congressional hearings we hear the Republican's question the nature of the investigation, and then  proclaim that its all a waste of time and resources and the taxpayers are suffering from investigation fatigues, etcetc. This Rasmussen Poll goes to show otherwise and is surely not good news for the administration, especially in light of today's claims of privilege in the investigation of Pat Tillman's death.

White House Invokes Executive Priv. In Tillman Investigation

Fri Jul 13, 2007 at 12:08:56 PM PDT

In the wake of the compelling testimony of Kevin Tillman and others in the finally initiated congressional investigation into the lies surrounded the events of his brother Pat's death, and the cover-up that followed, the White House continues to stonewall.
