Oh... bam... uh

Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 09:31:40 PM PDT

Wait, what now?

I are confused. I hit refresh and suddenly everyone's talking about that one guy.

Innnnnnnnnnnteresting.

But, um, yeah. Now that we're clear on our nominee's last name, good night.

Um...

Stop whining about the Republicans and Bush.

Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 03:00:19 PM PDT

Christ, what the hell are you thinking, that this is somehow a Democratic blog or something? That's really funny, man. You think we're all supposed to be smelly hippie activists that fight for issues we care about. Whatever.

You people annoy me. Demanding action from your representatives that you pay with your tax dollars? Shit, they don't owe you anything. What's that you say? You didn't just pay for them, but you elected them? So what? Lots of people elected them. You think they have to listen to you?! If they did that they'd have to listen to everyone and this republic would never survive those kinds of trials.

Furthermore, this outrage over Bush and Republicans has to end.

Breaking news, 1787: Convention goers capitulate, keep same government.

Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 07:12:49 PM PDT

The members of the Constitutional Convention have decided to give in and end their bid to create a Constitution in the new sovereign country.

This news comes just a little while after they bravely fought to form a free nation and make its own laws.

Reports say that the people just decided it was too tedious. They didn't really need legislation enforced anyway. It's also been suggested that the people do not want to honor national obligations.

Growing up a "morally sick" wretch in the '90s

Fri Jul 04, 2008 at 04:51:09 PM PDT

I'm not terribly sad about Jesse Helms' death. Apologies to those of you who wish for civility, I get you but I just can't do it myself.

I hate to directly pile on with insults and ill wishes, so I am going to write a diary about myself and my experiences instead, and maybe some of you will understand why I feel the way I do.

I don't care, honestly, at this point, if someone thinks I'm wrong. You're entitled. And if you want to hurl insults for my incivility. please feel absolutely free to do so.

I just hope some of you understand.

On bitterness, healthcare, and the economy (no candidates, I promise)

Sat Apr 12, 2008 at 02:21:14 PM PDT

WARNING: I talk about medical things in this diary some may find gross, so don't read if you're prone to that.

I had a really... "interesting" week. To give you some background, I'm twenty-four. I live in rural Alabama. I got paralyzed during a "routine" surgery for scoliosis when I was fifteen, so I'm now in a wheelchair.

If I were to fully write every thought I originally had for the above paragraph, I'd never stop writing. Life hasn't been very good and this week has made it even worse, and I'm living with the knowledge that this isn't it. Oh yeah, there's more.

See, two years ago I got a pressure sore (decubitus ulcer) which is very common amongst paralyzed people. I was hospitalized for months and after two years of treatment it closed. That brings us to now.

The other side of 'no religious test'

Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 03:23:22 PM PDT

There have already been some posts and comments reiterating what the Constitution says: that there should be no religious test for political office in the US, because too much religious influence on government is bad. And honestly I couldn't agree more. Look at all the faith-based initiatives we have had since 2000. All the science classes debating whether or not to teach creationism as science and not as philosophy. It's certainly true that this is the case.

I want to look at it from the other side though. The catalyst for this post was Senator Clinton's new attack on Obama for ever even having Reverend Wright as his pastor. Now suddenly, someone is arguing again that there should be a deeper vetting of people's religions or denominations, or even specific churches which "people" might deem bad, or something

So, in this, I'll discuss the fact that not having a religious test in government actually keeps churches from being trashed.

Two Minutes Hate and the media

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 04:15:25 PM PDT

A diary that bink wrote about the media and its nonstop coverage of "outrage" over Obama and any black man with whom he's associated has led me to some thoughts. It started with a comment I made in the diary:

[...]
The media would rather we be complacent, only outraged at what they tell us to be outraged over. I'm gonna go really far with an analogy here, but it's kind of like in 1984. Everyone was allowed two minutes to be "outraged" over what The Party WANTED them to get mad about, but on the things that mattered, if you even looked at a person in a way that showed emotion, you disappeared. I realize that's taking it completely far, but it's apt.

So I'm going to discuss the media and its new version of the "two minutes hate."

Honoring Reverend Wright - an Obama grassroots fundraiser (with updates throughout)

Sat Mar 22, 2008 at 01:24:31 PM PDT

It's time we in the netroots reject (and denounce) concerted attacks on our candidates' families and friends, made by Fox News and spread throughout the blogs and onto mainstream media. It's time we as Democrats stop wasting our energy and outrage on right wing corporate "media." Let's invest in something better. As I say on my fundraising page:

We've continuously watched Barack Obama get unfairly trashed by conservative media over the past several months, but this time it's gone too far.

We are doooooooooooomed!

Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 02:35:32 PM PDT

You guys, clearly the Democratic party is doomed in November. We're going to lose! We're done! I saw this coming, when one of our candidates started talking about "hope" and all that stuff. DOOMED.

We have two candidates who, although they're minorities, offer nothing new to the Democratic party or the country. Just the same old white guys who run everything. Just google pictures of both of our candidates. Same old white guys. And then look at their policies on keeping us at war, keeping health care expensive, ignoring terrorists who have already attacked us once, and look at their shitty economic policies. Tax cuts for the middle class? I don't think so. They offer nothing but corporate welfare!

I don't believe this... we are so doomed...

Shocking new developments: Obama is responsible for melanin and the Y chromosome, new reports say

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 10:43:21 AM PDT

Wow. I'm shocked. The media has just broken this HUGE story. According to WATB Press, Obama is responsible for the outbreak of melanin. That's right, guys! He started black skin tone and is responsible for every person with darker skin. I'm shocked.

Reports state that Obama caused centuries of anger for people of darker skin, even before he was born, because he introduced melanin to the country. Reports state that it's even started to affect the media.

You'd think this would be enough, and Obama would just come out and issue an apology for not only creating the spread of this phenomenon, but apologize as well for the comments and grievances addressed by ANYONE in America who has melanin.

There's more...

"Public opinion... has a strong underlying sense of justice."

Wed Mar 19, 2008 at 03:53:00 PM PDT

I really dislike Dick Cheney.

The guy is a monster. I honestly don't understand how he manages to show such arrogance when he's hated by so many people.

But then again, I can. He's said over and over that he ignores public opinion. So has Bush.

There's already a great front-page post up about his interview on Good Morning America but I made a point in the comments section of the diary and I want to expand on a few things.

The depression in this place lately

Tue Mar 18, 2008 at 02:25:56 AM PDT

It seems like we're all really down here. The economy is failing, Iraq is getting worse while McCain, Lieberman and Cheney keep saying it's going GREAT. Everyone has been (rightfully, I think) addressing the Wright issue, and we're talking about social issues finally, but I'm not so sure we're going about it the right way.

I confess even I'm guilty of piling on. There's definitely so much we shouldn't be proud of here. Iraq is proving to be a bigger disaster, every day. The Abu Ghraib scandal keeps getting bigger. The other day was the anniversary of the death of Rachel Corrie.

I'm currently writing a diary that is going to address social injustices toward the African American community, myself, and just researching that has me down...

Feigned outrage

Sun Mar 16, 2008 at 11:35:50 PM PDT

This will be about a lot of things. I suppose you could call it an "anti-Clinton" diary, but it isn't really. I've said all along that I think she's a good person.

But I need to point out some really weird inconsistencies among her supporters.

First of all, I will be talking about things referenced in the media. It's nearly 1AM here and I haven't slept much in the past week. So if you question something I say about the news in this diary, please google it.

On freedom of and from religion. no candidates here.

Sun Mar 16, 2008 at 01:13:49 AM PDT

"Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make one half of the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the earth."

Sigh. Yet another speech by someone with outrageous views on religion. I know, I know, he'll claim history, like they always seem to do. History has been unfair and has religiously persecuted them. I understand he has biases. I understand where this rage is coming from.

Strikes and that whole workers' rights movement thingy

Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 11:04:29 PM PDT

So this isn't going to be very extensive, definitely not as extensive as my last diary on the attempts to, either blatantly, or just out of sheer ignorance, denigrate an entire group of Americans.

I'm tired. A tornado touched down in ATLANTA tonight and there was a lot of destruction. It was a bad night.

But I'm going to post just about some of the people who went on real strikes.

ACTION diary: FISA bill passes House with no immunity! Call your senators!

Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 10:13:02 AM PDT

They are debating the FISA bill on the House floor today.

Here's the amendment they're debating apparently. Nope, it's this bill, sorry.

It's been interesting so far.

A gay paraplegic man's open letter to Geraldine Ferraro

Thu Mar 13, 2008 at 02:51:54 PM PDT

Ms. Ferraro:

I guess I'm joining in on this too.

At this point we all know what you said. Obama is lucky to be a black man because it puts him ahead in votes.

Yes, the "black" thing is what puts him ahead in votes! Of course!

He's just a novelty, just an overall average dude who has a darker skin color and therefore is more popular than is warranted.

Uh, yeah.

Oh god, I'm talking about racism

Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 11:49:37 AM PDT

Lately this place has gotten kind of insane.

Look, I respect Clinton supporters. I don't think that the Clintons are racist themselves, but I think some of their surrogates are using racist tactics.

This will not be a "fuck you Clinton supporters!" diary at all.

But I just need to point out that there has been a lot of craziness the past few days and a lot of excuses and in some cases, total dismissal of the comments made by Geraldine Ferraro.
