Sen. Kennedy's Office Quietly Preparing Universal Healthcare

Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 09:16:34 AM PDT

Behind the scenes, Senator Kennedy is preparing one of the cornerstone pieces of legislation for a new political age. I will be brief.

Ironic turn that a man who's devoted his life to public service, in particular making the practice of medicine accessible to American children and the elderly and the impoverished, now suffers a malignant brain tumor. Considering this may be his last great effort in the Senate. Finally achieving basic and decent health care for all, which is taken for granted in other leading nations.

Senator Kennedy is a real hero, not merely someone who has endured heroic events as a victim of circumstance. Because amidst his heroic moments and amidsts his low points the Christ-like burden of the hero is always about others, not self. A lesson for those laying claim to the mantle.  Senator Kennedy's life has made every single one of us richer or happier or more secure.

Thanks to jovie131 who diaried this at the wee hours of the morning.  I am posting because Senator Kennedy deserves every bit of limelight on this.

My especial hope is that it passes with the help of new Senators Tom Allen, Andrew Rice and Larry LaRocco, (wink, nudge) who've shown their support for progressive issues and civilized health care. And that the new legislation is named properly--as we hope all things are named properly.  Preferably, the Ted Kennedy Health Care for All Act.
