Still on the Campaign Trail

Sometimes people ask about my past history in partisan politics. I have no past involvement outside donations of money and my time as a political blogger and avid reader of political literature.  I have spent lots of time talking to anyone who would listen over the years. Politics is a passion, not a hobby. For years I have been involved in the local peace movement, on the ground week after week trying to swing public opinion to oppose the occupation of Iraq and bring our troops home.

Opposition to the war drove me to a campaign, but there are so many other pressing issues in our nation today. The war is a fundamental wrong which must be corrected. But the economy, the environment, our educational system, healthcare, and many more basic issues are important and all need attention today. Tomorrow may be too late.

We must each and every one take action today to see that our nation has a better tomorrow.  We cannot wait another minute. Having preached action for such a long time I am now taking action myself. I have an opportunity which may not be matched in my lifetime. The timing in my personal life is perfect for a campaign. This is the culmination of a lifetime of working behind the scenes for change in our country. I am deeply grateful for the chance to put my stake down and work for honest change in the nation. One person, one conversation at a time I hope to make a difference.

If we all take action on a daily basis, we will move the world.  Only by sitting at home and letting the world pass us without our action are we destined to fail.  I urge every reader to take some action today.  Get out on the streets.  Talk to people.  Pounding the keyboard is a fine thing, but it is the action outside our doors that works the best.

At the start of the campaign I was not a very outgoing person.  Today that is changing.  I shake hands and converse with people who were strangers only moments earlier.  Today I work on a daily basis for the people who are not able to do so for themselves.  There are so many in our country today downtrodden by life.  Every individual in this great nation deserves the same rights and the same opportunities as any other person.  We must all work to see those rights are brought to fruition.  We have not a moment to waste.

Practice makes perfect as the old adage goes.  Taking action the first time may not be an easy step.  Take a small step.  Begin with baby steps and move up the ladder.  Who knows where this course will lead?  The effort will pay rewards beyond imagining I assure you.  The taking of action may take you and your life in directions you do not expect.  Taking a chance is always a bit scary at first, but once the first hurdles are crossed, the course is so much more easy to follow.

I challenge every one of you to take those first steps.  If you are already taking action, do something different.  Try a new approach.  Try a new place and time.  There is so much to be done.  If we all do our own bit the chore will break down into manageable pieces and we will all benefit in the end.  We stand together or we fall apart.

I am an old time, long time, hardcore, Progressive Democrat.  Please check out the website or the ActBlue page and support the campaign as your circumstance allows.  Your help is needed for the effort to succeed.  Contributions of all sorts, both moral and monetary are most appreciated.  There are also chores a person may do from any place in the world.  If you are interested.  E-mail me directly and we can negotiate (Jerry at Northington zero eight dot com).

Peace.
